Position Open: Editor-in-Chief role for FEMS Microbiology Letters

FEMS is looking for an Editor-in-Chief to lead its flagship journal, FEMS Microbiology Letters, for a period of five years, starting in January 2025. We are seeking an Editor-in-Chief who is looking to step into a leadership role on a not for profit journal, with a broad knowledge of microbiology.

The new Editor-in-Chief will work with the FEMS publications team and our publisher, Oxford University Press, to strengthen FEMS Microbiology Letters’ focus on supporting researchers’ careers.

It is an exciting time to come on board, as FEMS itself is clarifying its objectives on increasing the impact of microbiology research, and elevating the voice of European and international microbiologists globally. Apply before 1 September 2024.

Explore the Events Planned for International Microorganism Day!

We are thrilled to announce that the first wave of International Microorganism Day events for 2024 are now live on the IMD website! 

Whether you are interested in attending a webinar, a hands-on workshop, or a public outreach event, there is something for everyone. As you may know, every year on 17 September, we celebrate IMD. A day dedicated to recognizing the often-unseen world of microbes and their critical role in our lives. From keeping us healthy to producing our food and safeguarding the environment, microbes are the unsung heroes of our planet.

16th International Congress on Yeasts - Special Issue of FEMS Yeast Research

ICY2024, the main gathering for the global yeast community, is happening in Cape Town, South Africa from 29 September to 3 October. You can still register and submit abstracts for the conference.

As the scientific journal of the yeast community, it is fitting that FEMS Yeast Research has partnered with ICY. A collection of recent and significant papers from our journal that align with themes of ICY2024 can be read here. Furthermore, we will welcome new contributions from ICY2024 delegates and will add qualifying papers to the special issue as soon as they are accepted over the coming months (submission deadline 31 December). The full collection will be launched in Spring 2025.

FEMS Yeast Research is sponsoring a poster prize competition at ICY2024 to support Early Career Researchers. In addition, the Editorial Board members welcome you to meet them at the FEMS Yeast Research booth during coffee and lunch breaks for guidance around publishing your scientific findings.
