Boehringer Ingelheim wächst im 1. Halbjahr 2012 erneut

Das Pharmaunternehmen Boehringer Ingelheim hat im laufenden Geschäftsjahr weiter zugelegt: Im ersten Halbjahr 2012 stieg der Umsatz währungsbereinigt im Vergleich zum Vorjahreszeitraum um 6,8 Prozent auf über 7,1 Milliarden Euro. Schwieriges Geschäftsumfeld für forschunsorientierte Pharmaindustrie „Die erfreulichen Zahlen sind Momentaufnahmen und dürfen nicht den Blick auf die Veränderungen auf unseren wichtigsten Märkten verdecken“, erklärte Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Barner, Sprecher der Unternehmensleitung, bei der Vorlage der Unternehmenszahlen für das erste Halbjahr. „Der konjunkturelle Gegenwind durch die Staatsschuldenkrise in Südeuropa und die weiterhin schwache wirtschaftliche Entwicklung in den USA gestalten das Geschäftsumfeld für die Pharmabranche zunehmend schwieriger", skizzierte Barner die geschäftlichen Herausforderungen. Weiters erläutert Barner: Neben der komplizierten Haushaltslage in vielen Staaten wird darüber hinaus der ständig anspruchsvoller werdende Marktzugang und das Etablieren neuer innovativer Therapien, als besonders herausfordernd angesehen. Mit Laserstrahlen können Moleküle in einem dreidimensionalen Material punktgenau an der richtigen Stelle fixiert werden. Die an der TU Wien entwickelte Methode kann für das Züchten von Gewebe oder für Mikrosensoren verwendet werden. Es gibt heute viele Methoden, dreidimensionale Objekte auf der Größenskala von Mikrometern herzustellen. Doch was kann man tun, wenn man auch die chemischen Eigenschaften eines Materials mikrometergenau bestimmen möchte? An der TU Wien wurde nun eine Methode entwickelt, mit einem Laserstrahl bestimmte Moleküle punktgenau an gewünschten Stellen andocken zu lassen. Beim Züchten von biologischem Gewebe könnte man so durch präzise chemische Signale vorgeben, an welchen Stellen sich einzelne Zellen anlagern sollen, die auf die Stoffe der Umgebung reagieren.

Ökologisch nachhaltiges Planen und Bauen sind an der TU Wien keine Neuigkeit mehr. Herausragend ist allerdings, dass sich dieses Jahr erstmalig das Team von Prof. Karin Stieldorf bei dem renommierten, vom US Department for Energy global ausgeschriebenen Architektur-Wettbewerb "Solar Decathlon 2013" in Kalifornien qualifiziert hat, bei dem verschiedene Universitäten ökologisch nachhaltige Vorzeige-Gebäude errichten.
Der Countdown läuft
Das Konzept für den österreichischen Beitrag ist nun fertig. Das Team von Prof. Karin Stieldorf (Institut für Architektur und Entwerfen, TU Wien) ist eines von nur zwei europäischen Teams, die am Solar Decathlon im Oktober 2013 teilnehmen dürfen. Nach intensiven Planungsarbeiten steht nun das architektonische Konzept, das beim Wettbewerb realisiert werden soll.
