Interscientific Exchange

ÖGMBT traditionally aims to bridge the gaps between the diverse branches of biosciences and expand upon networking procedures with workshops and satellite events. The 9th Annual Meeting hosted a large variety of events that empowered this philosophy.

EMBO Hand on Workshop: “Transparent Publishing, Preprints & Open Science: how to share reproducible data”
The interactive Workshop with Bernd Pulverer (Chief Editor, The EMBO Journal) gave an overview how the editorial and peer review process at highly selective journals can be reformed to assess both the interest and quality of the claims made by a researcher, and also the reliability, reproducibility and integrity of the experimental data. Bernd Pulverer discussed forward looking policies and publishing modalities that facilitate sharing and discoverability of research data with minimal delay, focussing on EMBO Source Data policies and technology and Preprint servers.
Annual Biophysics Austria Meeting
Biophysics is the bridge between biology and physics. To foster interactions with biology, it has thus become tradition to liaise with the ÖGMBT and hold the Annual Biophysics Austria Meeting as satellite of the Annual ÖGMBT meeting. The meeting highlighted recent advances in cell biophysics, membranes, channels & transporters, nanoscale biophysics, proteins, nucleic acids, systems biophysics, theoretical biophysics, biophysical techniques, and new emerging areas.

Exhibitors & Quiz

39 exhibitors used the opportunity to present their unique innovations and novel products directly to researching scientists. The popular ÖGMBT Exhibitor Quiz helped additionally to get in contact.
Those who answered several specific questions correctly had the chance to win great prizes like a Set of Research Plus pipettes sponsored by Eppendorf, a set of Corning Lambda Plus Single-channel Pipettors sponsored by Szabo-Scandic, Antibodies sponsored by Sysmex and further prizes like coffee machine, cake, power banks, poster tubes, giant microbes, Polaroid Snap Instant Camera,..

Takara Workshop: “Highly efficient genome editing and clonal expansion of hiPS lines using CRISPR/Cas9”

TAKARA BIO Europe invited all participants to the workshop held by Michael Elser, Senior Product Manager. Takara Bio's experts have developed a complete workflow for genome editing, single cell cloning and differentiation of human stem cells. In this workshop exciting new data demonstrating genome editing of stem cells with unprecedented editing and clonal expansion efficiency have been presented.

Wine & Science
The well-established networking event “Wine & Science”, with its more than 200 wine sorts offered by the exhibitors again offered the opportunity to share ideas and experiences, to meet old friends or make new ones - while enjoying a glass of wine at Exhibitor´s booths. Socialising within the scientific community is a vital part of conference environment and individual and professional development. Once again it was a highlight at the ÖGMBT Annual Meeting.
Career Corner
Participants took the change for a quick check of individual resumes and cover letters offered by Gisela Zechner from the life-science Karriere Services. and had the opportunity to ask questions concerning the interview. A full JOB WALL offered job ads for all participants. At the career corner participants could also find out what career opportunities do Sandoz offer and how it is to work at Novartis Group. Jan Mach and Christina Tschuggnall from Provadis Professionals, member and strategic partner of the ÖGMBT gave general informations about Provadis Professionals as a Human Resources specialist in Chemistry-, Pharma- and Industry Business. They gave insights into interesting job offers and the recruiting process.
