Workshop „The Evolving Landscape of Cell Culture:  Advancing Technologies and Future Prospects”

ABOUT

Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to an exciting ÖGMBT workshop on advanced cell culture methodologies hosted by OGMBT working group Cell-Based Assays, Therapies, and Products at BOKU University in collaboration with VetMedUni, Vienna, Austria.

This workshop offers a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues and share expertise in the dynamic fields of stem cell research, tissue engineering, and cell-based product development. We aim to create a platform for open discussion, including the exchange of SOPs, protocols, troubleshooting strategies, and even those sometimes-frustrating negative results – all to accelerate our collective progress.

The workshop program will be comprised of three scientific sessions, each beginning with a keynote presentation from the corresponding experts in the field, followed by short talks selected from submitted abstracts. A dedicated exhibition area will showcase relevant products and technologies from participating companies, who will also contribute short presentations to the program. Selected poster abstracts will be highlighted with flash talks, and a best poster prize will be awarded.

Stay tuned for more information on registration and the workshop agenda.

We are privileged to announce the keynote speakers:

Dominik Egger, Leibniz University Hannover, DE

Dominik Egger

Prof. Dr. Dominik Egger is Professor for Biofabrication for Drug Testing at the Institute of Cell Biology and Biophysics, Leibniz University Hannover. His research focuses on cell-based drug development, including the 3D isolation of stem and progenitor cells, the generation of physiological 3D cell culture models from differentiated stem cells, and the production of stem cells and extracellular vesicles under physiological conditions. A central goal is the preclinical testing of these cell-based drugs in advanced in vitro models that better mimic human biology. Prof. Egger earned his doctorate summa cum laude at LUH and BOKU Vienna with a thesis on the cultivation of human mesenchymal stem cells under physiological conditions. Prior to his appointment in Hannover, he was Senior Scientist and Deputy Head of the Institute of Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies at BOKU. His work bridges stem cell biology, bioengineering, and translational drug development

Michael Ausserlechner, Medical University Innsbruck, AT

Michael Ausserlechner

Univ.Prof. Mag.Dr. Michael J. Ausserlechner is Professor of Tissue Engineering at the Medical University Innsbruck, where he heads the 3D Bioprinting Core Facility (3D-BCF, https://bioprint.at/). He has been working for many years on cell death and cell cycle regulation in childhood malignancies with a special interest in the role and function of FOXO transcription factors. His team was the first to develop small compounds that physically interact with the DNA-binding domain of FOXO3, modulate DNA binding, and transcriptional activity. To improve drug testing and disease modeling without animal experiments, he founded the 3D Bioprinting Lab at Medical University of Innsbruck, focusing on vascularized, bioprinted organ-on-chip models and tumor-microenvironment systems to study angiogenesis, metastasis, drug response, and senescence. For his “bioprinted neuroblastoma-on-a-chip” model, he was awarded the "State Prize for the Promotion of Alternative Methods to Animal Experiments 2022" by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.
