Interscientific Exchange

ÖGMBT traditionally aims to bridge the gaps between the diverse branches of biosciences and expand upon networking procedures with workshops and satellite events. The 8th Annual Meeting hosted a large variety of events that empowered this philosophy.

Panel discussion: “Förderung der Grundlagenforschung in Österreich”
ÖGMBT vice president Josef Glößl invited Barbara Weitgruber (BMWFW General for Scientific Research and International Relations), Klement Tockner (FWF president), Ellen Zechner (FWF vice president), Oliver Vitouch (UNIKO president),  Birgit Tauber (FFG head of base program) and Lukas Huber (ÖGMBT vice president) to address the future of basic research and its funding in Austria in a public round table discussion.
Annual Biophysics Austria Meeting
Biophysics is the bridge between biology and physics. To foster interactions with biology, it has thus become tradition to liaise with the ÖGMBT and hold the Annual Biophysics Austria Meeting as satellite of the Annual ÖGMBT meeting. The meeting highlighted recent advances in cell biophysics, membranes, channels & transporters, nanoscale biophysics, proteins, nucleic acids, systems biophysics, theoretical biophysics, biophysical techniques, and new emerging areas.

Exhibitors & Quiz
34 exhibitors used the opportunity to present their unique innovations and novel products directly to researching scientists.
The popular ÖGMBT Exhibitor Quiz helped additionally to get in contact. Those who answered several specific questions correctly had the chance to win great prizes like a CytoSMART™ Lux 10X Cell Monitoring System sponsored by Szabo-Scandic, 500 € coupon for outdoor equipment from IFlow sponsored by servoLAB, Eppendorf Research® plus pipettes sponsored by Eppendorf, a Samsung Galaxy Tab, an eBook reader, coffee machines, Power Banks, poster tubes . . .
Workshop with Pall Life Sciences
Pall Life Sciences invited to the workshop “High throughput, scalable and reusable ion exchange membrane chromatography” where participant learned about, how the Mustang capsules enable users to significantly improve their process economics through reduced buffer consumption, increased throughput and reduced capital expenditure.

Wine & Science
The well-established networking event “Wine & Science” again offered the opportunity to share ideas and experiences, to meet old friends or make new ones - while enjoying a glass of wine at Exhibitor´s booths.  Socialising within the scientific community is a vital part of conference environment and individual and professional development. Once again it was a highlight at the ÖGMBT Annual Meeting.
Career Day
Applying correctly but how? Birgit Leitner, Employer Brand Manager of the ERBER Group gave this lecture in front of very interested young scientists  and answered questions from the participants. Jan Mach and Christina Tschuggnall from Provadis Professionals, new member and strategic partner of the ÖGMBT, were not only the hot spot at the Networking Event “Wine & Science”, but gave also information to different job opportunities.  Gisela  Zechner of Life Science Career Service offered the chance for a quick resume and cover letter check at her info point. A full JOB WALL offered job ads for all participants.
