Dear colleagues,
we are please to invite you to the VIBT seminar by Helena Herrmann "Using metabolic modeling to understand the limitations photosynthesis under changing environmental conditions”, which will be held on 28 January 2020 at the seminar room Chemie 03/03 (MUG2-03/03), starting at 11:00 a.m.
Abstract: When exposed to different environmental conditions, plants alter the proportion and the form of carbon stored in the leaf. How changes in the distribution of carbon to the polysaccharide starch and the organic acids malate and fumarate promote acclimation in Arabidopsis is currently unknown. Combining unbiased flux sampling with 'omics experiments we were able to predict the effects of temperature acclimation on metabolic flux. In this exploratory analysis we were surprised to see shared metabolic responses in the distribution of transient carbon in response to both cold and heat treatment. Combining a reliability engineering approach with kinetic modelling we conclude that fumarate acts as a safety-valve to primary carbon metabolism in plants
