Postdoctoral position (m/f/d) in Molecular Medicine/Cancer Research:

Drug repurposing in acute myeloid leukemia: can a headache medication help cure this deadly disease?

Recent work by ourselves and others has revealed the G-protein coupled receptor CALCRL as a novel key player in therapy resistance and stem cell properties of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (PMID: 31015209, PMID: 31182782, PMID: 31756985, PMID: 33462236). Small molecule drugs and antibodies targeting its signaling pathway have already been approved for the treatment of migraines. In the context of a project funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF; project no P34425), the role of CALCRL as a potential therapeutic target in AML shall be further explored using state of the art molecular biological and biochemical methods as well as in vivo and ex vivo experiments in mouse models.

Work will be carried out in the group of Prof. Dr. Rotraud Wieser, Department of Oncology, Clinic of Medicine I, Medical University of Vienna. This small, highly interactive team is embedded in the research communities of the Anna Spiegel Center of Translational Research and of the Translational Research Unit of the Department of Oncology. State of the art facilities (e.g., mouse, flow cytometry, imaging) are available within the building.

Starting time: as soon as possible, to be agreed on between applicant and PI

We offer:

• a 3 year position (Austrian Science Fund, FWF, https://www.fwf.ac.at/de/; project no P34425)

• salary according to FWF standards

• a stimulating research environment

• a friendly and supportive work atmosphere

• well-equipped laboratories and facilities

Requirements:

• PhD degree in the biological sciences, or MD degree

• background in biomedical research and molecular biology

• high level of motivation and keen interest in biomedical research

• ability to work independently

• cooperativity and team spirit

• experience with mouse work, FELASA course

• experience in flow cytometry is an additional asset
