Beschreibung:

As part of the Cancer Cluster Salzburg (CCS) Smart Specialization Center for Translational Cancer Research and Immuno-Oncology, we offer an open position for a PhD student 3 years on

Intercellular communication in health and disease in the gastrointestinal tract between primary epithelial cells, immune cells and specific microbiota to gain new insights into malignant processes. In particular, correlation of microbiota, checkpoint inhibition and reactivation of immunosurveillance are in the focus of the project.

Job description:

  • Co-culture of 3D organoids from normal and tumor gastrointestinal biopsies with autologous T cells
  • Establishment of air-liquid interface (ALI) culture systems of primary tumor biopsies and co-culture systems with endogenous stroma and embedded immune cells
  • Correlation analyses of chemo-resistant tumor biopsies with tumor associated microbiota.
  • Additional techniques: confocal laser scanning and super resolution microscopy (STED), next-generation and single cell sequencing, CyTOF, GeoMx DSP

The project is a cooperation project with members of the CCS (https://de.cancercluster-salzburg.at/).

Candidates:

  • should have a strong background in cancer biology, and/or organoid culture
  • are expected to be scientific-orientated and self-motivated
  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • collaborate with internal and external partners and support other group members
  • Employ cutting-edge technologies and standard molecular biology tools

We hold a state-of-the art laboratory at the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg in Austria, a beautiful place at the northern boundary of the Alps. The Department of Biosciences provides broad possibilities for interaction and support. The PhD student will be integrated into the doctoral school Biomolecules DSP BioM. Our group is member of the CCS, the priority program "Allergy-Cancer-BioNano Research Centre" (ACBN, University of Salzburg), and international "PhD program Immunity in Cancer and Allergy” (ICA, University of Salzburg/FWF).
