We are offering a fully funded PhD position in the Laboratory of Gergely Szakacs at the Institute of Cancer Research, Medical University of Vienna from December 1, 2020. Application deadline:  October 31 2020.

 

The research project

We are seeking an exceptionally motivated PhD student to identify and characterize novel molecular regulators of cancer cell survival and metastatic growth following chemotherapeutic drug treatment with the focus on breast cancer, using cancer cell line, tumor organoid and genetic mouse cancer models. This project will primarily involve clonal tracing by barcoding, standard and 3D organoid cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 based gene editing, NGS (RNA-seq), mouse work, histology, in vitro and in vivo live imaging, advanced microscopy and standard molecular biology techniques for DNA, RNA, and protein analysis.

 You are:

  • an exceptionally motivated PhD candidate with a master’s degree in biology or equivalent
  • with a keen interest in basic and translational cancer research that nurtures the precise, personalized and predictive cancer therapy of the future
  • with a clear encouragement to be part of an international and interdisciplinary team
  • excellent in writing and speaking English

Experiences in mouse models of cancer, cellular and mouse models of drug resistance, 3D cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9, NGS, barcoding or advanced microscopy are of advantage.
