Harald Marx, Coon Research Group, University of Wisconsin

Harald is currently working on proteogenomics, developing tools for leveraging genomic and transcriptomic data for proteomics. It’s largely computational work. When it comes to computation, mass spectrometry in general heavily relies on protein sequence databases. Whatever is captured there is what we can identify with mass spectrometry. In adding genomic and transcriptomic data, he gets other layers of information, which can help him identify other things besides canonical proteins. Harald is also interested in big data analysis. With both big data and proteogenomics, he’s ultimately aiming to develop computational tools for biological applications, specifically bioactive peptide research.
