The Department of Biosciences at the University of Salzburg invites applications for the position of a
 

Postdoctoral University Assistant
(“UniversitätsassistentIn”/“Postdoc-Neu”)

in the field of Cancer Epigenetics. The research of our team focuses on genetic and epigenetic variations and aberrations in the context of cancer. We are interested in elucidating how interindividual genetic and epigenetic variation, as well as acquired genetic and epigenetic changes can affect cancer risk, tumor development and clinical prognosis.

• Expected starting date: 1st March 2018
• Duration of employment: 6 years (tenure if “Habilitation” is achieved within this time)
• Working time: 40 hours /week
• Responsibilities: Candidates will be expected to perform own research and teaching, to scientifically support the ongoing research and teaching in the area of “Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics” and to participate in administrative duties. Teaching includes offering courses (4 hours per week). A successful “Habilitation” within 6 years will lead to tenure.
• Employment requirements/qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD and excellent background in molecular biology or a related subject, and peer-reviewed publications in the area of epigenetics and/or cancer research, as well as proven track record in next generation sequencing (NGS), epigenetic analyses and/or bioinformatics.
• Additional qualifications: We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who will collaborate with internal and external partners and will employ cutting-edge technologies. Candidates should be highly motivated, have successfully completed projects, ideally have acquired third party funding, and have relevant teaching experience.

The successful candidate will contribute to our involvement in the Cancer Cluster Salzburg, the priority program "Allergy-Cancer-BioNano Research Center", as well as the doctorate school PLUS. The hearing is planned for Feb 26^th. The hiring and employment are governed by the Austrian University Act (UG 2002) and the Austrian Employee Act (Angestelltengesetz). The advertised position corresponds to that of a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, a newly created hiring category, according to § 26 (1) of the Collective Agreement (Kollektivvertrag, KV) for Austrian Universities with the salary scale B1 (currently at € 3.626.60 per month) while an annual salary consists of a fourteen-month payment (§§ 48 and 49 (3), KV).  The salary level may be subject to an increase through a change in the KV.
