We seek to fill the position of a Bioinformatician (Post-doctoral Scientist level) at the Department of Pathology at the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna) (https://www.meduniwien.ac.at/hp/pathologie/) to work at the interface between basic and translational research and diagnostic applications. We currently extend our facilities for molecular pathology and the fast developing technologies will increasingly rely on bioinformatics to meaningful analyse ever increasing sets of data. The successful candidate will join a rapidly enlarging community of bioinformaticians at MUW and is needed for the processing and analysis of data from (for instance) Next Generation Sequencing. RNA Seq, and Microarrays generated as part of molecular diagnostic and basic research applications.

A successful candidate will be an experienced bioinformatician with a background of biomedical research and extensive knowledge of existing databases and their analysis. They will support the Renal Research Group headed by Professor Kain who works on mechanisms of autoimmunity (https://www.relent.eu/the-team/consortium/medical-univerity-of-vienna/) which includes data mining and integration, data processing and interpretation and statistical data analysis. Although the successful candidate will become a key member of the group, they will be offered the opportunity to develop their own research interest.
As member of one of the biggest academic diagnostic Pathology Departments in Europe, the candidate is also expected to develop bioinformatics tools for the routine molecular pathology laboratory and help me the members of the laboratory with the development of diagnostic panels as well as the analysis of results from diagnostic specimen, such as database and informatics work (especially those related to NGS data).
