The Institute Molecular Biotechnology at the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria, has an open research position in the area of Protein and Cell Engineering. The Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering team investigates the engineering of enzymes and whole-‐cell biocatalysts for synthetic applications. We use state-‐of-‐the art techniques to create enzyme and cell variants with tailor-‐made properties and integrate them into synthetic routes leading to the synthesis of bio-‐based chemicals and materials. A focal point is the utilization of autotrophy to provide chemical energy for synthetic processes. The institute coordinates several European research projects and offers thus a dynamic and international environment for research.
The position is suited for a postdoctoral researcher and offers the opportunity for further scientific development. Salary will be as a regular research assistant (Projektassistent) paid according to B1. Starting date is the 1st October 2017. The position is limited to 6 months and will be extended after evaluation for further 5.5 years.
The ideal candidate has a PhD degree in microbiology biotechnology, biochemistry or a related disciplines and holds experiences in microbiology, molecular biology, cell engineering, enzyme expression, development of molecular tools, synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. Knowledge in enzyme engineering, directed evolution and biocatalysis are an advantage. The successful candidate is expected to supervise international PhD students and biotechnology bachelor and master students and to support the team with management of own projects and projects of the research group. Thus, high motivation, flexibility and team orientation as well as very good spoken and written English skills and basic German skills are important.
