Fighting antibiotic resistance is one of the main challenges in public health in this decade.
Within the scope of the Horizon 2020 Innovative Training Network ANSWER – “Antibiotics and Mobile Resistance in Wastewater Reuse Applications: Risks and Innovative Solutions” we offer a PhD position focused on the detection and modelling of horizontal gene transfer of ARGs on free extracellular DNA (natural genetic transformation of bacteria) in wastewater and soil.

Workplace: Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) in close collaboration with the Technical University of Vienna

Eligibility criteria: High motivation and enthusiasm; background in molecular biology, microbial ecology, microbiology, bioinformatics or statistics. No residency in Austria for more than 12 months in the last 3 years prior to recruitment. Start: September 1st, 2016.

Requirements:
1.        cover letter stating on a single A4 page your ideas on how to tackle ARG transfer by free DNA in soil and wastewater
2.        detailed CV
3.        certified copies of all tertiary-level academic transcripts and grading schemes;
4.        two recommendation letters from academics
